Bellevue, CEO of Metropolitan named to City & State’s Manhattan Power 100 list


City & State names Bellevue and Metropolitan Hospital CEOs on “2021 Manhattan Power 100” list

NYC Health + Hospitals / Bellevue CEO William Hicks and NYC Health + Hospitals / Metropolitan CEO Cristina Contreras ranked 54th

The program honors public servants, business leaders, community leaders and others who are helping the borough recover from the pandemic

NYC Health + Hospitals announced today that Bellevue CEO William Hicks and Metropolitan Hospital CEO Cristina Contreras have both been named to City & State’s “2021 Manhattan Power 100” list. This year, the publication recognizes leaders’ contribution amid the pandemic and their commitment to helping New Yorkers find a way forward. Hicks and Contreras ranked 54e for leading the major public hospitals that have helped Manhattan cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. City & State’s “2021 Manhattan Power 100” program honors government officials, business leaders, community leaders and others who are helping the borough recover from the pandemic.

Cristina Contreras has extensive experience in the management of health care in hospital, outpatient, clinical and auxiliary services. She began her career with NYC Health + Hospitals in 1995 as a social worker and has successfully progressed to various managerial positions in the public hospital system. She was Executive Director of NYC Health + Hospitals / North Central Bronx before being appointed Executive Director of NYC Health + Hospitals / Metropolitan in April 2021. She is also President of the National Dominican Day Parade.

William (Bill) Hicks is currently CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals / Bellevue, recognized as America’s oldest public hospital and established in 1736. Bellevue is NYC Health + Hospitals’ flagship hospital. Mr. Hicks has over 40 years of healthcare experience and has led facility operational responses to major disasters and emergencies such as Super Storm Sandy, Hurricane Irene, September 11, Ebola and, more recently, the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of a career commitment to public health, Mr. Hicks actively works to promote equity of access, diversity and inclusion in the delivery of care.

Former NYC Health + Hospitals / Harlem CEO Eboné Carrington was also named to City & State’s Manhattan Power 100 list.
