Consumer Forum Appeal to Tiruvarur Municipality

The Tamil Nadu Environmental and Consumer Protection Research Center has urged Tiruvarur Municipality to identify a suitable venue for organizing public meetings and other events by political parties and others held so that such events cannot be an obstacle to public traffic.

In a resolution adopted at the forum’s monthly meeting here recently, it was pointed out that so far such meetings/events have been held on the main thoroughfares of the city, causing inconvenience to the general public.

To avoid public inconvenience, the civic organization could identify an appropriate location within its jurisdiction and even erect a podium on the site for the benefit of meeting organizers.

Expressing his dissatisfaction with the way public places, especially the four Car streets and the Vilamal market, were overrun with street vendors, he called for tough action against encroachments to ensure the free flow of traffic on the pavements.

Emphasizing the need to harness rainwater, the forum urged the district administration to take warlike measures to set up rainwater harvesting facilities in government offices, establishments schools and private premises throughout the district and also to take steps to remove debris from water bodies to prevent mosquito breeding.

It has also sought additional coaches for the Karaikal and Mannai Express services given the increased traffic of commuters from Tiruvarur and surrounding areas.
