FF Plus files a complaint with the HRC against the municipality of the Free State


The Freedom Front Plus is housedre a complaint to the Human Rights Commission against Matjhabeng Municipality in the free state, regarding water shortages and blackouts experienced by residents.

On Friday July 2, 2021, the Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) against possible human rights violations by the local municipality of Matjhabeng, where the inhabitants would frequently be deprived of water. The municipality is home to the Allanridge, Hennenman, Odendaalsrus, Ventersburg, Virginia and Welkom communities of the Free State province.

FF Plus reported that according to the Auditor General, the municipality lost up to 76% of its water in fiscal 2019 and 2020, due to leaks and illegal connections. Thus, three quarters of each liter purchased by the municipality is lost. According to the FF Plus, residents have been plagued by water shortages and blackouts. The FF Plus also noted that the municipality’s water supplier, Sedibeng Water, confirmed that in 2020 it was technically bankrupt, due to outstanding debt of over R 3.6 billion. by Matjhabeng.

The party said it is unacceptable that residents do not have access to water amid a new wave of COVID-19 and Level 4 restrictions. The FF Plus also called on the HRC to investigate the run municipality. by the African National Congress (ANC) for negligence and mismanagement. He also called on residents to register to vote for the FF Plus, in order to end poor service delivery.
