Metropolitan Playhouse announces call for new one-act game scripts

Now in its 30th season, Obie Award-winning Metropolitan Playhouse is accepting nominations for its 17th presentation of East Village Chronicles, a one-act festival of new plays inspired by diverse people, culture and the history of the Lower East Side of Manhattan. There is a $ 100 honorarium for each script accepted for production.



Exhibits must relate specifically, if not exclusively, to the character, reputation and / or history of the East Village and / or Lower East Side neighborhoods of Manhattan. Creative responses to this broad theme are encouraged, but plays that do not deal with the history and / or character of the neighborhood will not be considered.


Scripts must be received by January 21, 2022.
Selected scripts will be announced by March 15, 2022.

Please ensure the pages are numbered and include the following:
A cover page, with the name of the playwright and his contact details.
A production history, if applicable.


The run time should be 10 to 30 minutes.


Artistic staff
The plays will be directed by directors hired by Metropolitan Playhouse.
The directors will have the final say in the casting of each play; however, the suggestions and contributions of the playwrights are greatly appreciated.

Performances will be rehearsed and performed live for six performances in the house of the theater: a 51-seat thrust theater on East Fourth Street. virtually, given the security measures related to COVID-19. The actors perform in remote locations, brought together via conferencing software (such as Zoom), and the performance is broadcast once, live, on the theater’s YouTube channel and Facebook page. A recording of the live remains available for four days on these two platforms.Performance dates (subject to change):
