TIRUCHY: Municipal Administration Minister KN Nehru said on Saturday he would ask Chief Minister MK Stalin to include Tiruchy on the list of cities that will get a metropolitan development authority. The state government has proposed MDA for a few towns, but Tiruchy is not on the list.
Nehru was talking to reporters after inspecting the site of the integrated bus terminal in Panjappur and a map of the projects to be undertaken there. “
The call for tenders will be launched shortly and construction of the 48-acre terminus will be completed within a year. A sum of `350 crore was allocated for this in the first phase. Prior to the tender, a sum of 37 crores was allocated to clear and level the land and fill it with sand. The wholesale market and road terminal will be set up here on 47 acres. Roads and an overpass will also be constructed in the area to avoid traffic jams,” Nehru said.
A total of 280 stores will be built and around 20,000 people will find employment here. The integrated bus terminal will be an important junction of the Madurai, Dindigul, Karur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai and Chennai national highways. The Chief Minister also asked to organize a joint Kollidam water system for
Manapparai SIPCOT, Nehru said.

Nehru then attended an event held at the Collectorate in Tiruchy and distributed social aid to farmers. He also inspected the banks of the Kudamurutti and the office of the Corporation. Municipal Administration Director S Ponnaiya and Collector S Sivarasu were present.
