BURTON, Mich. (WJRT) – New residential developments could arrive in the city of Burton, the first major developments to be built in nearly a decade.
Preliminary planning approval for the site was given at a recent Planning Commission meeting.
Two new condo developments are in the very early stages of construction in the Town of Burton, near Atherton and Vassar Roads.
The developments proposed by Kelly Walker Development LLC would create 215 single-family homes.
The Meadows, which would exit from Atherton Road, has approximately 96 units. All of these would be built as single family homes encouraged to be for anyone. The fields that access by the road from Vassar are 115 units
DPW deputy director Amber Abbey said the development of two new subdivisions could have a significant economic impact on the town of Burton.
âThere are always advantages for new developments, we get income through residential development. You also have an economic impact on business enterprises in the region. You have the grocery store has more people shopping, the restaurants have more people eating there, âAbbey said.
The development company already owns the property it plans to use as a construction site, but is expecting the city to expand water pipes in the area.
âThe proponent asked the city to run a water main to the entrance to the project on Atherton Road. Right now, the city’s main public stations stop at Belsay Road around the corner, âshe said.
Abbey said that while preliminary plans for the site have been unanimously approved, there have yet to be renderings or concrete plans. She expects plans to move forward in the near future.
At this time, there is no cost estimate for the water pipe investment that the city would make for the project.
The Town of Burton is also encouraging residents to express their views on the draft plans by attending a future Planning Commission meeting.
