Palisades ‘Max Fields wins City boys’ cross country title

It was early morning fog and cool weather for the City Section cross country finals at Pierce College on Saturday, but that’s not why Max Fields of Palisades was the only runner out of 75 in the final of Division I to wear gloves.

“My lucky charm,” he said.

Fields came out and set a personal best 15 minutes 22.5 seconds to win the title and lead Palisades to the Division I tag team championship. He finished second last spring in a freshman in the 3200 during the track season. He qualifies for the state championships next weekend in Clovis.

In the Division I girls, Isabel Castagnola of Granada Hills continued her rapid progression and won the title with a time of 18: 18.9. She entered this season without ever breaking 19 minutes. His teammate Jocelyn Pacheco finished second. Granada Hills escape with the tag team championship.

In the boys of Division II, James Jimenez of Venice won in 15: 59.4. Monroe won the tag team title. In the Girls’ Division II, Lidia Prokopovych of Venice won in 19: 07.3. Eagle Rock won the team crown.

The Franklin High duo of Francisco Rodriguez and David Martinez finished one-two in the boys’ Division III. Rodriguez ran in 15: 48.1 and Martinez finished in 15: 50.4. Just behind in third was second student Jude Sandridge from Reseda in 15:56. Verdugo Hills won the tag team title. Canoga Park’s Dulce Gonzalez won the women’s title in 18:52 and the Hunters won the tag team title.
