Special section on asbestos in the technical specifications of the invitation to tender
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has prepared a special technical specification which includes health and safety precautions before demolition operations. Accordingly, the company that received the offer will collect, pack and transport the asbestos-containing material, according to the determination report received by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality from the laboratory accredited by the Turkish Accreditation Agency ( TÜRKAK) before starting the demolition process, and will start the demolition process after cleaning the site. In all these processes, it will comply with occupational health and safety, environmental law and regulations on the transport of dangerous goods by road. The asbestos removal work will be carried out by personnel with an “Asbestos removal certificate”.
The architecture project competition will be open
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will use the vacant area after the demolition with a smaller building that will house the mayor and the city council hall. The new building will be determined by a competition of architectural projects. The project, which is intended to be supported by public, cultural and artistic functions, will be open to contributions from urban actors such as professional chambers and non-governmental organizations linked to a participatory method at the scale of urban design including the ‘immediate environment. . The competition will be open to national and international participation and will take place in two stages.
The Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Tunç Soyer, announced that instead of the building to be demolished, a smaller building in harmony with the historic square, where the Presidency and the City Council Chamber will be located, is planned.
