Atlanta police arrested several people following a protest outside City Hall on Monday.

Protesters set up tents and held a rally earlier to bring the attention of city leaders to the homeless issue plaguing Atlanta.

Protesters said they wanted the city to invest pandemic relief funds in long-term housing solutions.

They also want authorities to provide essentials for life, such as access to water and health care.

“Homeless people are not okay in Atlanta. It’s a very, very big problem,” one protester said.

Protesters moved in last night and said they wanted to hear from Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms or someone from his office.

“We’re going to stay here. We’re not going anywhere. Whatever happens, come. We want to talk to the mayor and we want to share our demands with him, ”said the same protester. “We don’t care what the police tell us or are going to do to us, we don’t move. We are staying here until we hear from someone who wants to help us with the homeless situation we find ourselves in now. “

Homeless advocates and the Atlanta Police HOPE team spoke to the group about their concerns, then directed the protesters to available services.

After several hours, a small number of people stayed and ignored police warnings. The police therefore took six people into custody and charged them with criminal trespassing.
