Thrikkakara municipality to develop stadium infrastructure

The Municipality of Thrikkakara decided to raise the level of its existing stadium and build an infrastructure meeting international standards with an athletics track, facilities for seven-a-side football, badminton and volleyball courts, a gymnasium and basic amenities such as bathrooms and toilets.

Municipality president Ajitha Thankappan said on Sunday that the Uralungal Labor Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) had been tasked with preparing a plan for the stadium’s development as well as preparing a quote for the project. According to initial estimates, the stadium project will cost around 3 crores. The project report should be ready within a fortnight.

The stadium development is also expected to take into account the availability of public land adjacent to the current stadium complex, which is now used by football players. The parking of vehicles in the stadium area will be prohibited and a security guard will be appointed to check the misuse of the pitch.

The decision to develop the stadium was welcomed by the residents of Thrikkakara. Anil Kumar, from the residents’ council at the top, said that Thrikkakara, the hub of information technology companies, needs a quality playground and sports complex to meet people’s recreational needs. . He said that although city officials have spent money on the stadium in the past, full development of the facility has not taken place. City officials said the grass overgrowth in the stadium area would be cleaned up on Monday.
